Cabby offers a lifetime of thanks

A Bronx cabby rescued from three armed muggers Wednesday night by an off-duty NYPD cop says he’d probably be dead if not for the heroic officer.

“What he did, not everyone would do,” Abarca marveled.

Livery cabdriver Mario Abarca, 60, had finished his shift when the thugs jumped him from behind and pulled a gun on him.

That’s when Police Officer Ivan Marcano, 27, jumped out of his parked car, drawing their attention and catching a bullet in the chest, but gave chase and fired back, killing one of the violent toughs.

“I will be thankful to him for the rest of my life,” added the Chilean-born father of five and grandfather of six.

“God has been good to me. I’m lucky to see my kids again.”
