NHL cancels all November games

The NHL accelerated its fast track to oblivion by canceling all games through Nov. 30 on this, the 41st day of the owners’ lockout.

The move, which wipes out the originally scheduled Nov. 23 Black Friday Rangers-Bruins afternoon match in Boston that would have represented NBC’s first telecast of the season, means that the 2012-13 league schedule would likely be reduced to no more than 60-64 games per team if a labor agreement is reached by mid-November.

A 60-game season would reduce the players’ compensation by 26.8-percent on a pro-rated basis for this season.

It is unknown when the parties will next meet. The NHL rejected the NHLPA’s requests to meet this week unless the players fundamentally agreed to accept the quasi 50/50 offer that includes severe systems restrictions the league proposed last Tuesday.
