Vito’s Parting Shot

The judge will approach the Breathalyzer.

State Supreme Court Justice Carl Landicino was arrested on suspicion of DWI last week near Albany — and it was no surprise to find that the juiced jurist is all wet.

By juiced, we mean connected, of course — one of Vito Lopez’s last gifts to New York.

Whenever Vito (the former Brooklyn Democratic kingpin and serial sexual harasser) wanted to knock down opponents, he turned to Landicino, whose specialty was filing usually specious lawsuits against upstarts to stop them from seeking office on Vito’s turf.

Landicino spent more than a decade as Vito’s personal lawyer and five years as the Kings County Democratic Party’s shyster — and was rewarded with a nomination (meaning his election) for a 14-year term as a state Supreme Court justice.

But when Landicino acceded to the bench, he didn’t metamorphose into a reliable jurist — he remained Vito’s puppet.

Now he’s paid $136,700 a year to decide the same cases he once crafted — that is, he’s in a position to toss worthy candidates from the ballot on bare technicalities.

It’s outrageous; even after Vito’s long gone, Landicino will still be deciding cases.

In a just world, Landicino would dry out and move on. Alas.
