Keeping killers in jail: no parole for gun thugs

The Issue: The murder of Officer Arthur Lopez on the Cross Island Parkway, allegedly by a paroled criminal.

When is our judicial system going to realize that certain people just don’t belong on the streets with the rest of society (“Doomed by Random Stop,” Oct. 25)?

How many times have we seen the likes of Darrell Fuller get paroled and then cause grief for so many? J. Cavaliere

How is it possible that the New York justice system saw fit to let a man who shot at an individual several times in front of his house serve just five years for attempted murder? Then, months after he is paroled, he is arrested again on drug charges, yet was soon set free again to commit such savagery in our streets.

When will our legal system get tough on serious criminals, enforce minimum-sentencing guidelines and bring back the death penalty?

We are very sorry to hear about the loss of Officer Arthur Lopez, an active member of the Dix Hills Fire Department from 2003 to 2005.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and fellow Nassau County police officers.

The American judicial system is nothing more than a joke, and New York City’s judicial system is a circus.

The criminals have the rights, while the rest of us risk our lives daily among the worst offenders.

When will judges start giving the maximum and the parole boards start keeping violent offenders in jail?

New York needs to re-instate the death penalty and start dealing with violent criminals like what they are: animals.

How does one get convicted of attempted murder and only serve five years?

Somebody please help me understand this. Did this monster get a break on his jail term because he is a bad shot?

Attempted murder is no different than actually carrying it out. Evil is evil in all its forms and expressions, and society needs to be protected from these animals.
