Shuttle service for storm-hit voters

Stranded voters in the Rockaways and the hard-hit beach areas of Staten Island and Brooklyn will be able to take free shuttle services to and from the polls on Election Day, city officials announced last night.

The Board of Elections announced the plan following discussions with Gov. Cuomo’s office and City Hall.

The shuttle service will run from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and make stops every 15 to 30 minutes, said BOE spokeswoman Valerie Vasquez.

Voters can check the routes at http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us.

POST-SANDY POLL SITE CHANGES

The shuttles will be needed because the board was forced to divert 143,000 registered voters to 60 new polling sites to replace regular sites rendered inoperable by Hurricane Sandy.

Voters in storm-ravaged New Jersey will be allowed to submit an absentee ballot electronically or by fax.
