Apple paid an income tax rate of only 1.9 percent on its earnings outside the US in its latest fiscal year, a securities filing shows. The tech giant paid $713 million in tax on foreign earnings of $36.8 billion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 29.

Fifth Season

Beanie Baby tycoon Ty Warner said an unidentified buyer has offered him $900 million for the Four Seasons Hotel New York, which he acquired in 1999 for $275 million, according to WSJ.com. The Toronto-based luxe resort giant must match the offer to keep its brand on the flagship hotel.

United Continental Flight 1116 from Houston to Chicago ushered in a new era for composite-plastic aircraft with its inaugural flight yesterday using Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. The fuselage is made chiefly from composite materials.

Chase fees

Automatic fee waivers were extended through Wednesday for Chase customers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia.
