Jets didn’t talk Tebow trade with Jaguars: source

The Jets are evaluating the best thing to do with Tim Tebow in the second half, but one of those is not trading the popular backup quarterback.

There was a report by a Jacksonville TV station on Tuesday night that the Jets and Jaguars were talking about a trade to send Tebow to his hometown team. A source said that report is not true.

The Post reported last week the Jets would not trade Tebow before the trade deadline, which was pushed back to today at 4 p.m. because of Hurricane Sandy.

The Jaguars are the one team people speculated the Jets could trade Tebow to because that is where he is from and they were the only team other than the Jets to show interest in Tebow when the Broncos put him on the trading block in March.

The Jets have struggled through the first half of the season with how to use Tebow. He has played just 55 snaps on offense and has not scored a touchdown. Jets coach Rex Ryan said Monday that one of the areas the coaches would address during this their bye week is how they have used Tebow and if he should have a larger role.

Ryan acknowledged he would not be shocked if Tebow is frustrated with his role, but the always cool Tebow has not shown signs of that publicly.

The Jets promised big things when they sent a fourth-round draft pick to the Broncos to acquire Tebow. Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano was expected to use Tebow to provide a dynamic element in the Jets offense. Instead, he has spent most of the season watching from the sideline.

There have been calls for Tebow to supplant Mark Sanchez as the team’s starting quarterback, but Ryan said they are sticking with Sanchez when their season resumes on Nov. 11 in Seattle.
