Midtown residents displaced by hanging crane allowed back into homes to retrieve personal belongings

Midtown residents, displaced by a precarious crane, are being temporarily allowed back into their apartments today, officials said.

Residents who live between 56th and 57th Streets and Sixth and Seventh Avenues must show ID to police before they’re escorted into their buildings to quickly pick up personal belongings.

Police will allow residents into their homes until 9 p.m. tonight.

Residents have been displaced since Tuesday when engineers realized that gale-force winds have blown the crane’s boom loose as it dangled high above the 90-floor construction site.

Those wishing to get back into their apartments should contact the NYPD at the corner of 57th Street and Sixth Avenue.
