Feds come to re$cue

WASHINGTON — From a flotilla of warships at the ready to a military airlift of utility crews to New York, the feds have been pouring resources into the storm-recovery effort with election year gusto.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency yesterday agreed to reimburse the state for emergency public-transit and power-restoration efforts that include 200 generators shipped to the region.The first of 17 Air Force cargo planes began landing at Stewart Air National Guard base upstate yesterday, carrying 69 repair trucks and crews from California.

A trio of Navy ships carrying helicopters were moved closer to the region to be ready if needed.
