Romney predicts ‘very solid win tonight’

BOSTON – Mitt Romney predicted “very solid win tonight,” as he took to the radio airwaves and made last-minute battleground stops as the election came down to the wire.

“I’m going to win but I can’t tell which state is going to be the one that puts me over the edge,” Romney said on the “Chris Plante Show” on MMAL radio in Washington.

Romney said his campaign’s internal polls made him confident that he was in a tight race with President Obama in Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and even Democrat-leaning Michigan.

“It’s very hard to gauge what’s going to happen state by state,” he said, but added that he is “expecting a very solid win tonight.”

Earlier, Romney and his wife, Ann, cast their ballots in their hometown of Belmont, Mass.

Obama took part in early voting last month in Chicago.

Romney and Obama both did radio interview with stations in those swing states that are still up for grabs as voters cast ballots today.

Romney plans campaign stops in Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pa., before returning to his Boston headquarters for an election night party.

After doing the radio interviews from his hometown of Chicago, Obama will indulge his Election Day tradition of playing some basketball to try to relax during the voting.

Romney made a final appeal to Virginia voters on WMAL, which broadcasts into densely populated Northern Virginia.

Last election, Obama flipped Virginia to the Democrats for the first time since 1964.

“Virginia is critical to this because without Virginia our pathway is much more difficult,” Romney said, insisting he’s confident he’ll prevail there.

“I think they voted for change last time. They didn’t get it. If they vote for change this time, I’m going to win,” he said.

“This is about getting an economy going by someone who understands how the economy works, and I do and the president simply does not,” said Romney.
