‘Nature Calls’ review

Patton Oswalt stars as a dorky scout leader trying to lure his young charges away from TV screens for a weekend camping trip in “Nature Calls,” a low-watt, low-wit comedy.

Oswalt’s naive Randy is in a long-running feud with his brother Kirk (Johnny Knoxville), a beer-swilling jerk who wants the scout troop, including his adopted son, to instead spend the weekend hanging out with him in his suburban house listening to Hooba-stank and watching the tube.

Randy does get them into the woods, and the camping trip turns increasingly dire. There are some potty jokes, an old man explodes, and everyone runs around screaming and swearing a lot. In the end, in sitcom style, everyone draws together and learns about teamwork, or something. Oswalt deserves better than this, although Knoxville doesn’t.
