Midtown Tunnel open

Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Sandy flooded its tubes, the Queens-Midtown Tunnel plans to reopen to cars today — just in time for the morning rush hour.

Two inbound and two outbound lanes are to become available at 6 a.m.

But trucks are still banned, and the tunnel will still be subject to overnight shutdowns for repairs.

“The recovery of New York’s transportation network continues,” said Gov. Cuomo, with the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel the only major crossing into Manhattan still closed.

Officials also announced that the L train would resume limited service to all stations in Brooklyn and Manhattan but that riders should prepare for longer waits and large crowds.

And there’s still lots to do to restore the “devastated” A, N and R lines, especially the R in lower Manhattan, the MTA said.
