NY lawmaker warns Thruway toll hike may get vote

A state assemblyman and upstate business group warn that the state Thruway Authority is planning to approve a toll increase for truckers as early as Friday.

Earlier this year the agency proposed what it termed a “modest” 45 percent increase

Unshackle Upstate’s Brian Sampson says he expects the toll increase to be approved in Friday’s special meeting of the Thruway’s Board of Directors. Sampson says it’s a hastily called meeting while public and media attention is riveted on Superstorm Sandy recovery.

Republican Assemblyman James Tedisco of Schenectady says the Thruway Authority clearly doesn’t want the public to see it enact the toll increase truckers say will boost costs for all New Yorkers.

The Thruway Authority has announced a meeting for Friday afternoon, but provided no agenda. A spokesman said the agenda wasn’t available Thursday night.
