All’s fright again on LES

Halloween is back on — at least on the Lower East Side.

About 40 merchants in the neighborhood have agreed to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters Saturday, according to the scary fun house “Killers: A Nightmare Haunted House.”

The idea of the project — “Halloween Too: Take Back the Fear” — is to bring back the joy of the holiday that was taken away when Hurricane Sandy arrived on Oct. 30.

Businesses that put the sign in the windows reading “We Are A Halloween Too Participant” will be handing out goodies from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

One business had promised to donate 100 pounds of candy, according to the haunted house.

The merchants are located from Clinton to Orchard streets and from Houston to Broome streets.

In addition, adults can get cheaper tickets from 10 to 11 p.m. to “Killers” — if they come in costume to the 107 Suffolk St. location and stay for a Halloween party.

For folks who take All Hallows’ Eve seriously, superstorm Sandy dealt a devastating blow.

The annual Village Halloween Parade, which usually attracts more than 50,000 participants in costumes, was canceled for the first time in its 39-year history.

Organizers said City Hall couldn’t give them a rescheduled date any time in the near future.

The focus of the NYPD and the Sanitation Department on Sandy recovery also forced cancellation of an annual parade in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Parts of New Jersey did manage to carry off a delayed trick-or-treat festival.

Gov. Chris Christie made good on his promise to reschedule the holiday by issuing an executive order moving Halloween to this past Monday in areas of the state that had recovered.
