Holland Tunnel reopens

The Holland Tunnel reopened this morning for all commuter traffic.

The Queens Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels remain closed to cars. Buses are allowed in the Midtown Tunnel.

Meanwhile, the MTA announced it’s restoring service to the eastern portion of the Long Island Rail Road’s Montauk branch, which had been terminating at Speonk.

And nothing can stop the MTA from planning fare and toll hikes.

The cash-strapped agency said it’s holding its first fare-hike meeting tonight in Brooklyn, even as large swaths of subway service remain suspended and a huge storm bears down on the hurricane-ravaged region.

The meeting — which MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota and agency board members will attend — will be held at the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge at 5 p.m.

The hikes, which will go into effect in March, will likely send the cost of a monthly MetroCard to somewhere from $109 to $125. The current price is $104.
