The MTA has restored limited train service on the G train, which was damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
The agency started running trains at 8:55 a.m. along their full route from Church Avenue in Brooklyn to Court Square in Queens.
Because of flooding damage to its tunnels, G trains will operate at no more than 10 mph through the Greenpoint tube under Newtown Creek. The creek flooded the tunnels during the storm.
Trains will operate every 12 minutes instead of every 8 minutes.
Expect delays and possible crowding, officials said.
“We are working day and night to restore service as quickly as possible to give customers more travel options after the storm each day,” said MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota. “We will continue to add service incrementally, only when it is absolutely safe to do so and doesn’t overcharge the system. Given the strain on the system, we still encourage our customers to allow extra time for their commutes.”
