Cop’s stab story just didn’t cut it

A Bronx cop who allegedly stabbed himself and blamed it on fake robbers was arrested yesterday for filing a false report, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Rishi Gobin, 34, claimed to be beaten and stabbed by intruders in his Queens home on Sept. 12, but it was all a staged attack to get back at his wife for cheating on him, the sources said.

Gobin, a five-year veteran who served in the 42nd Precinct, discovered his wife was sleeping around by finding text messages on her phone from her lover — and he decided to get back at her by staging the home invasion, the sources said.

It wasn’t clear what he hoped to accomplish by stabbing himself in the side.

The off-duty police officer called 911 at about 1 p.m., claiming he’d been stabbed by two men wearing white shirts and sneakers. He said they went to his front door and demanded, “Where is the money?” before beating him unconscious and stabbing him, according to the criminal complaint.

Internal Affairs launched an investigation when it became clear that the wounds were self-inflicted, sources said.

Surveillance footage also failed to back up his story, according to court documents.

“Surveillance shows [Gobin] entering his residence . . . No one matched the description of the defendant’s assailant using the front steps that lead to the defendant’s second-floor residence. No one is observed on the video until the defendant’s wife and police officers arrived,” the complaint says.

Gobin hired a lawyer and has not spoken with investigators.

Wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and a pea coat, he remained silent at his Queens Criminal Court arraignment yesterday.

Prosecutors are to present the case to a grand jury Nov. 20.

Gobin is due back in court Nov. 29.
