Petraeus and Benghazi: The timing is suspicious

The Issue: Gen. David Petraeus’ resignation after an extramarital affair and the probes of the Benghazi attack.

***

The Obama administration assumes the general public is stupid — just look at his two election victories — but this may take the cake (“The General’s Duty,” Editorial, Nov. 14).

Gen. David Petraeus’ affair, which some reports say ended before he took over as director of the CIA, causes him to resign a few days after the election and a week before he is set to testify on the Benghazi attack?

I know the mainstream media will accept this explanation without following up. God help us.

The timing of Petraeus’ resignation due to his extramarital indiscretion and the timing of the State Department’s statement concerning the availability and feasability of military assistance during the tragedy in Benghazi all point to a massive coverup.

There’s no telling what else will be revealed when he testifies.

I just hope that, for once, the media are brave enough to do their job by investigating the issue the way they should, although it’s unlikely.

President Obama may have won the election, but his porridge pot has now simmered to a boil, and it has only begun to spill over. Polly Mikelis

The truth will never be told, because the other press outlets and the White House don’t want it to be told.

It started with Fort Hood some three years ago and hasn’t changed.

There is no way the president didn’t know about Petraeus. That’s like a vice president of sales being investigated for embezzling funds and the CEO not knowing about it.

Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Fort Hood and this affair are the big scandals, but what about the smaller lies or the ones we know nothing about?

To be honest, I’m tired of the lies, but I’m resigned to the fact that there really is nothing we can do about it.

I will simply go about the next four years hoping for change and moving forward.

Petraeus told Congress that the Benghazi slaughter was caused by a movie, even though it was obviously terrorism.

Petraeus was also under investigation at the time for his affair and wanted to keep his job. No motive to hedge there, right?

Neither FBI Director Robert Mueller nor his boss, Defense Secretary Eric Holder, told the president for months about the investigation until just after the election. Convenient, isn’t it?

If true, they should both be fired for misconduct.

This is the same Holder who has already been held in contempt of Congress for his Fast and Furious stonewalling.

And didn’t the Department of Defense wait until just after the election to reveal the attack on our drone by Iran?

Petraeus’ problems had less to do with the ladies and more to do with an incompetent administration.

They wanted to claim credit for the general’s successes and used him as a pawn to cover their own tracks for the intelligence failures that led to the deaths of our ambassador and the brave former Navy SEALs in the Benghazi attack.

Yes, the general’s indiscretions were wrong, but the administration’s disgraceful handling of these related issues was even more criminally offensive. John W. Fox

Send in the clowns.

The former CIA leader doesn’t appear very intelligent, his mistress is spilling secrets, the FBI couldn’t get into Libya to investigate the attack and Hillary Clinton was last seen in Australia.
