Fordham forward Gaston undergoes knee procedure, expected to miss a month

Fordham has three losses already this season, but those pale in comparison to the loss the Rams suffered Friday.

Star senior forward Chris Gaston is expected to miss a month of the season after suffering a knee injury and experiencing swelling during the team’s three-game road stretch at Texas State and in the Preseason NIT in Pittsburgh.

“It’s never good, but it’s better now than in January,” Fordham head coach Tom Pecora told The Post.

Gaston successfully underwent arthroscopic surgery on Friday morning in Manhattan.

“It went well,” Gaston told The Post. “I’m not in too much pain right now.”

Gaston, who led the Rams in scoring and rebounding in each of the past three seasons, is one of Fordham’s few upperclassmen and the team’s leader. Gaston’s numbers had been down early in the season, averaging 11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in the first three games. The preseason Atlantic-10 first team selection averaged 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds in 2011-12.

The pressure to fill the void left by Gaston will fall on freshmen forwards Ryan Rhoomes, Travion Leonard and sophomore Luka Zivkovic.

Fordham is 0-3 this season, suffering losses to Texas State, Pittsburgh and Robert Morris.
