Manhattan

A serial bank robber was done in when a detective recognized his mug from a prior arrest, law-enforcement sources said.

Robert Connolly, 54, allegedly scored $3,495 from the Valley National Bank on Fourth Avenue near East 12th Street on Oct. 10 by handing a teller a demand note.

An investigator poring over surveillance footage while probing the case recognized him from a 2004 heist that had landed Connolly in prison for two years, the sources said.

Connolly also allegedly hit the Valley National Bank on Broadway near East 21st Street on Oct. 25, pocketing $1,222 — this time by flashing a hypodermic needle at a teller.

When cops canvassing the area arrested him an hour later, he still had the bait money in his pocket, so he allegedly confessed to both recent bank jobs and was charged with robbery.

The duo had entered the Sutter Avenue pad, not far from Aqueduct Racetrack, through a side door at about 8:45 a.m., investigators said. They managed to grab $160 before fleeing, the sources added.

The homeowner, 58, was not injured, police said.

Brooklyn

A cop opened fire on a carful of armed men in Clinton Hill after the driver tried to mow him down, authorities said.

The officer and his partner were patrolling on Marcy Avenue near Myrtle Avenue at 4:25 p.m. Nov. 4 when they were flagged down by a man in a Mercury Mountaineer SUV, police sources said.

The man said he was being followed by a Ford Taurus full of men carrying guns, the sources said.

When the cops spotted the Ford nearby and ordered the driver to pull over, all of the passengers put their hands up, but the driver threw the car into reverse as the officers approached, the sources said.

After clipping a livery cab on nearby Vernon Avenue, he put the car back into drive and gunned it toward a cop standing in his path, the sources added.

The officer squeezed off three rounds from his 9mm service weapon, but the Ford driver managed to get away, cops said.

Both also went prepared with latex gloves and handguns, investigators said.

Staten Island

At least she wasn’t a cat burglar. A New Jersey woman is accused of looting a Midland Beach pet shop that had been shuttered against Hurricane Sandy, authorities said.

Jenna Morello, 27, made off with 210 cans of dog food, dog collars, various dog toys, eight flea collars and other items from Pet Foods Plus, on Midland Avenue, at about 5 p.m. Thursday, cops said.

The shop has been without electrical power since the storm.

Morello was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property, the cops said.

But that was just the start of her very bad day — as officers also found heroine and amphetamine pills in her car, prompting an additional charge of drug possession, the cops added.
