Singer/actress agrees to community service in assistant-bash case

She’s at the top of the charts — and now she’s cleaning up her rap sheet, too.

Songbird actress Taryn Manning, who played Eminem’s dysfunctional girlfriend in the 2002 movie “8 Mile,” agreed in a Manhattan courtroom this morning to serve a day of community service to resolve chages that she pummeled her female assistant at the Dream Downtown Hotel in Chelsea last month.

Manning’s deal, which will ultimately result in the dismissal of misdemeanor assault charges, comes a day after her single, “Send Me Your Love,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Dance charts.

“I was on a press tour for my song and doing a lot of press outlets is draining,” the petite blonde, 33, remembered after court of her smackdown with assistant Holli Hartman, 23.

“We were two girls hanging out, sharing clothes and suffocating each other,” Manning told reporters. “She’s one of my dearest friends and we’re both devastated by this. We both want to resume our friendship,” she said.

“We’ve learned our lesson,” Manning added. “We’ve learned a lot.”

“It’s a good week for her,” her lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, said outside court, noting her singing success. Manning will do her community service this weekend at a Los Angeles soup kitchen where she is already a volunteer, he told the judge.

Under today’s agreement, all charges will be dismissed against Manning if she completes her day of service and stays out of trouble for six months.

Manning had been charged with misdemeanor assault for punching and kicking the assistant as the two argued in October in Manning’s room at the trendy Dream Downtown Hotel on West 16th Street.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Marc Whiten today discontinued the order of protection barring Manning from any contact with Hartman after both the defense lawyer and assistant district attorney Greg Scally noted that Hartman is eager to resume their friendship.

“She sent a letter to the DA saying this was not a crime; this was a misunderstanding,” Tacopina said outside court.

“It was just a misunderstanding among two friends who had spent a lot of time in a room together,” the lawyer added.

Manning has starred with Terrence Howard in the 2005 hit movie “Hustle and Flow.” She has also recently had guest spots on the TV shows “Sons of Anarchy” and “Hawaii Five-O,” and this summer released a music album.
