WATCH: Jon Stewart takes self down a notch over interview with Petraeus’ mistress

On last night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” host Jon Stewart mocked his own lack of journalistic instinct when it came to the interview he did with David Petraeus’ mistress Paula Broadwell earlier this year.

In January Broadwell appeared on Stewart’s show to promote her adoring biography of Petraeus, “All In,” which she wrote after being embedded with the rising military star while he was in Afghanistan.

Stewart’s very first question to Broadwell back then forshadowed what was to come, “So the last time I remember a journalist or an author being embedded with a person at this level, it was [General Stanley] McChrystal, and it was Rolling Stone, and he got fired. How did Petraeus allow that?”

With a setup like that it was only natural for Stewart to take himself down a notch last night, “The whole thing was like innuendo after innuendo!” Stewart said of his interview with Broadwell.

“I had her right there, talking about what a thick coat of awesome sauce Petraeus is bathed in,” Stewart continued. “The whole time I was just staring at how defined her arms were and trying to think of another version of my classic ‘I’m an asthmatic old Jew’ jokes.”

“I’m the worst journalist in the world! For God’s sake, the title of her book was ‘All In’!” Stewart lamented.
