Queens-Midtown Tunnel reopens to all traffic

The Queens-Midtown Tunnel has reopened to all traffic for the first time since the storm.

The crossing reopened to trucks this morning, after opening to cars on Nov. 9.

“The progress that was made in bringing the Queens Midtown Tunnel back is nothing short of miraculous,” Governor Cuomo said.

“The tunnel had never flooded in its 72-year history, but after being underwater, it is back in service as a vital regional link for both commuters and commerce.”

The MTA credited bridge and tunnel workers for the speedy opening.

“Employees worked very hard to restore access as quickly as possible,” said MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz.
