Kids found after father allegedly takes them from Bronx home, steals car to escape

A father violently took his two children from their Bronx home today before he carjacked a stranger’s wheels to escape, authorities said.

An Amber alert was issued before the missing kids were found alone and unharmed in the carjacked vehicle in Harlem, shortly after noon, law-enforcement sources said.

Suspect Fitz Edwards, 29, is still on the lam. He’s accused of taking his 5-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter and stealing a stranger’s 2005 gray Honda Accord, sources said.

Edwards got into an argument with the mother of his children on Barker Avenue, near Laconia Avenue, around 5 a.m., today, sources said.

He pulled a gun, fired one shot that didn’t hit anyone and set fire to her fifth-floor apartment before fleeing with the two children, who were barefoot and dressed only in Pampers, sources said.

The mother fled the apartment barefoot but was not injured, witnesses and police said.

The father walked about three blocks along Bronx Park East before stealing the car, sources told The Post.
