MLB: Jays give manager’s job to Gibbons
John Gibbons was hired as manager of the Blue Jays for the second time yesterday. He managed Toronto from 2004-08 and had a 305-305 record. He succeeds John Farrell, who now manages the Red Sox.
Chone Figgins, who signed a $36 million, four-year deal with Seattle in 2009, was designated for assignment. … Right-hander Jeremy Guthrie agreed to a $25 million, three-year deal to return to the Royals.

Manhattan College secured a commitment from junior-college standout Chris Thomas, a former highly touted high school recruit, according to Foxsports.com. Thomas, a Colorado native, attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla.
