A firefighter who saved the lives of several colleagues but wound up critically injured battling the 2005 “Black Sunday” blaze in The Bronx was remembered yesterday with the unveiling of a plaque (pictured) in his honor.
Lt. Joseph DiBernardo died last year after enduring six pain-filled years coping with massive injuries from his 40-foot fall from a burning building. Two of his fellow firefighters died in the blaze.
DiBernado’s heroism was recounted in tributes by Mayor Bloomberg, Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano and other firefighters.
