Cops investigating whether Holy Cross HS coach had inappropriate contact with students he ‘watched shower’

The NYPD is investigating whether the hoops coach at Holy Cross HS in Queens had any inappropriate contact with the students he’s accused of watching take showers, law-enforcement sources told The Post yesterday.

School officials asked cops to get involved, and investigators are checking whether Paul Gilvary, 48, committed any illegal acts, the sources said.

Otherwise, it will be considered a school matter.

The varsity head coach was put on administrative leave with pay on Nov. 10.

The allegations were sparked after a teacher overheard three players talking about the alleged shower episodes.

In addition, a mother of one current player has said that some of his teammates had been “uncomfortable” with Gilvary talking to them while they showered.

An unsigned note from the office of Principal Rev. Walter Jenkins, posted on the school’s Web site, explained that school officials were given information “of potential improprieties that caused us to alert the civil authorities.”

Gilvary, a director of administration, had been the varsity coach for the basketball and was chairman of the Catholic High School Athletic Association for the boys’ soccer and basketball leagues.

He is The Post’s reigning coach of the year in Queens.

Gilvary’s lawyer, Joseph Tock, called his client a “dedicated employee for the past 28 years at Holy Cross High School.

“He has a sterling reputation, and numerous players, including some of whom have played college basketball and soccer, will vouch for him. He denies any improprieties.”

“He’s horrified,” one Holy Cross colleague told The Post earlier. “He’s fighting for his reputation.”
