Mayor Bloomberg wants storm-ravaged New Yorkers to have a turkey in every pot — especially in Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens.
City Hall is managing a massive Thanksgiving Day effort to dole out more than 26,000 turkey meals today in the areas hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy.
“I always thought the best holiday of the year is Thanksgiving because people tend to come together,” Bloomberg said.
Meanwhile Gov. Cuomo and actor Steve Buscemi mingled with first responders, treated to 500 turkey meals in Breezy Point yesterday.
“This has been an incredible effort. What I’ve seen has just humbled me and moved me,” the “Boardwalk Empire” star said.
Retired firefighter Joseph Napoli, 50, who lost his Belle Harbor home to a Sandy-sparked fire, said he’ll spend today with his niece thankful they’re all alive.
“It’s not about eating a turkey sandwich. It’s not about ‘Save a [turkey] leg for me.’ It’s about thanking God we’re here,” Napoli said.
