Cops catch brutal Williamsburg rapist

Police nabbed a brute who choked and raped a young woman after following the victim into her Williamsburg apartment building, authorities said today.

Laye Kaba, 31, of East New York, stalked the 23-year-old victim into the Kent Avenue building about 5:45 a.m. Saturday, and began to strangle her with a scarf before raping her, police sources said.

The woman did not know her attacker, cops said.

Police searched nearby homeless shelters for the suspect, who was captured on surveillance camera.

Kaba was identified at a shelter by someone who recognized him from when he used to live there, sources said.

Kaba was taken into custody today when he went to pick up his mail at the shelter, sources added.

He was charged with rape, as well as burglary, stalking, sex abuse, strangulation, menacing, and unlawful imprisonment.

His rap sheet includes twenty prior arrests, including assault, robbery, grand larceny, and drug-related collars, according to sources.
