Phone flub in Queens tree death

Anthony Laino, 30, died after a tree fell on him while he was inside his East Flushing house — well outside the city’s evacuation areas — as loved ones frantically called 911, to no avail.

“Does he have any psych issues?” the dispatcher asked when a caller tried to describe how Laino was trapped on the second floor by a tree.

Throughout the conversation the operator also kept asking the caller to check on Laino to see if he was OK, apparently not understanding that it was impossible to reach Laino’s second-floor bedroom from either inside or outside because of the tree.

Still, loved ones acknowledge that a better 911 response would not have made a difference either way.

“He was killed on impact,” one grieving relative said.
