Nets-related domain name redirects users to Knicks homepage

Someone in cyberspace is playing a prank on the Brooklyn Nets.

Users who typed in http://www.nets.com into their web browsers over the weekend were automatically redirected not to the Brooklyn Nets’ homepage, but rather the All-Star Balloting page for the Knicks.

The original redirect, which featured Knicks stars Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton, has since been replaced with a redirect to the Knicks’ official website.

This isn’t the first time that the URL has pushed users to a site that takes a dig at the newly-relocated Nets. In early October the site brought users to a page that took a dig at the team’s majority owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, referencing his 2007 prostitution scandal, according to Deadspin.com

The owner of the domain name remains unclear, but several months back, the URL brought you to the homepage of Cyber Mesa, a telecommunications company based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Deadspin reported.

Speculation arose online that the true owner of the site may have been Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, but there is no proof that the outspoken owner owns the domain name.
