Bronx Science stuns Beacon in PSAL soccer

The Bronx Science girls soccer team pulled off a shocking 2-1 upset of top-seeded Beacon, its longtime rival, to win its second PSAL Class A city title in four years on Sunday at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.

The 10th-seeded Wolverines (12-4-0) received goals from Alexandra Scheman and Sydney Schulman and stellar play from their defense to hold high-powered and two-time defending champion Beacon (15-1-0) to a single goal.

It was a memorable postseason for Bronx Science. Injuries led to a mediocre regular season and third-place finish in Bronx/Manhattan A1, but the Wolverines got it together in the playoffs after suffering two setbacks to Beacon during the year.

On the boys side, national powerhouse Martin Luther King Jr. won its 14th title in 17 years and second straight, blanking Aviation of Queens, 2-0, behind goals from Ibrahim Lakanobo and Michael Henry.
