Nets’ Wallace: Ankle feels OK

LOS ANGELES — Gerald Wallace wanted to see how he felt yesterday after returning to the lineup for the Nets’ 99-90 win Sunday over the Kings in Sacramento.

And, outside of some usual soreness from the day after a game, Wallace said there were no issues with the left ankle that had forced him to miss six games after he sprained it in the final minute of the Nets’ season-opening win over the Raptors on Nov. 3.

“Yeah, I felt good,” said Wallace after practicing fully yesterday with his teammates at UCLA in preparation for tonight’s game against the Lakers. “I’m regularly having morning stiffness, but after getting it loose and warmed up I’m feeling pretty good.”

Coach Avery Johnson had Wallace on a minutes limit Sunday, getting him to 24:30 of game time by playing him in four six-minute bursts throughout the course of the game.

Johnson said his starting small forward may see a couple more minutes on the floor tonight.

“I don’t want to force myself back into it too much and have a setback or whatever,” Wallace said. “We have a big stretch of games coming up where we’re going to have a lot of games, and not many off-days to rest, so whatever [Johnson] feels like is comfortable, whatever the trainers feel like is comfortable for me, I’m fine with that.”

* Deron Williams missed practice yesterday, but not because of his right calf, which had bothered him throughout each of the last two games, or his right elbow, which he banged hard in Sunday’s win. Instead, Williams was absent from practice in order to have a dental procedure.

Johnson said Williams wouldn’t have practiced either way yesterday, in order to rest his elbow, but said he didn’t anticipate any issues with Williams playing tonight.
