Patriots prepare for life without Gronkowski

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski hasn’t missed a game in his three-year career. But that will change Thursday night when the Patriots visit the Jets as Gronkowski will be recovering from a broken left forearm which he suffered at the end of Sunday’s blowout win over the Colts.

Gronkowski, who had two touchdowns and 137 yards in the 59-24 win was injured in the final minutes of the game blocking for his team on an extra point try. He is expected to miss at least four weeks.

SERBY: BELICHICK TO BLAME FOR INJURY

“It sucks that he gets hurt, but it’s part of this game, so he’s got to do his best to get back as soon as possible, and we’ve got to go out there and win some games without him,” Tom Brady said on WEEI in Boston. “He’s such a great player.”

There’s no doubt the Patriots will miss him — he already has 10 touchdowns this season, and had two against the Jets in the Patriots’ 29-26 overtime win over the Jets earlier in the season.

Gronkowski underwent surgery Monday, and even though tight-lipped coach Bill Belichick didn’t rule him out on Thursday, it’s obvious that he will miss significant time.

The Patriots other starting tight end Aaron Hernandez, who has missed the past four games with an ankle injury, is expected to return Thursday.

“Everyone here is hurt by it, especially him. But I’m sure he’ll be all right and get back fast. It’s tough. He’s obviously one of the best players in the league, but we have a lot of players and everyone has to step up to fill the void,” Hernandez said Monday
