Home, street home

An elderly couple living in this Chinese apartment house won’t get out of the way of progress.

The entire five-story building was to be torn down to make way for a new highway in Wenling, 250 miles south of Shanghai.

But the unhappy couple is dissatisfied with the relocation compensation offered by the government, and refuses to move.

So road builders tore down all of the building except the apartments around the home — and then paved the highway around what was left.
