Lauer a turkey: viewers

NBC veteran Matt Lauer was savaged by TV viewers for what they called his sloppy, tired and lackluster hosting of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“Matt Lauer should get a lifetime-achievement award for saying ridiculous things with deadpan, absolute sincerity,” tweeted one viewer. “Way to go Matt.”

Viewers were particularly outraged when Lauer introduced Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara’s performance of an iconic song from their Broadway musical, “Nice Work If You Can Get It.”

Lauer pronounced their song as “Ess wonderful,” instead of “S’Wonderful.”

“Ess Wonderful. Which is what Jewish families say before they eat turkey,” gibed one viewer.

“S. Wonderful. Try S’Wonderful, one of the most popular Gershwin songs ever written,” tweeted another.

Other viewers ripped the 54-year-old “Today” show host for his tired appearance.

“I remember back when Matt Lauer had hair,” one tweeted.

“Dear Matt Lauer. RETIRE, YOU LOOK LIKE A CROTCHETY OLD MAN,” wrote another

Some people didn’t like how he sounded. “Is there a device to delete Matt Lauer’s voice while watching the Macy’s parade?” one wrote.

But still other home critics said it was the whole Lauer package that turned them off.

“It was horrid. I hadn’t realized my dislike for Matt Lauer had evolved into complete disgust,” said one.

“Can’t decide if it’s Matt Lauer that I hate or just the mindless blather that comes out of his face all of the time,” tweeted another.

Lauer, who reportedly earns $21.5 million a year for “Today” and his other duties, has been getting flak for plunging ratings and his less-than-impressive hosting of the Olympic Opening Ceremony last summer.
