Benghazi blame game: It’s about Rice, not race

The Issue: Democrats’ accusations that Republicans have unfairly targeted UN Ambassador Susan Rice.

Will the race baiting ever stop (“Race Rants Over Rice,” Editorial, Nov. 25)?

When senior officials of our government are backed into a corner regarding what we now know is incorrect information given to the public, this administration hides behind race and gender.

How about the truth regarding the death of four Americans?

Maybe President Obama should question the competency of his appointed officials, since their merits have been few and far between.

With his administration having done little to protect an ambassador who had repeatedly warned that he was in trouble, Obama did everything he could to protect himself politically after the ambassador was killed.

This included sending UN Ambassador Susan Rice to repeat something for which there was never any evidence.

If Democrats are angry about the predicament that Rice finds herself in, they should put the blame where it belongs: on the man who used her to try to save himself, and flew off to Las Vegas after the attack to raise money for his presidential campaign.

As night follows day, so does the charge of racism leveled by Democrats following any Republican criticism of an African-American, regardless of the facts at hand.

It used to be that patriotism was the last refuge of a scoundrel. Now the charge of racism is the refuge of a Democrat too lazy to do his homework.

Rice put herself in the limelight when she acceded to a White House request to peddle a false story to cover administration culpability in the murder of four Americans in Benghazi.

Rice is a very intelligent public servant, and likely knew perfectly well that she was possibly misleading the American people.

With Rice’s knowledge and experience, it is expected of her to seek additional information from the State Department before she goes on the Sunday talk shows.

She could have asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton why she wasn’t willing to represent the administration. She could have asked State Department security official Charlene Lamb what happened. They followed what happened in Benghazi in real time; they knew the truth.

Why didn’t she ask Gen. David Petraeus and Gen. James Clapper why they weren’t willing to represent the administration? A woman of her education and intelligence had to have known something was wrong when they came to her.

That is fair and has nothing to do with her race or gender.

Obama said “they should go after me,” regarding criticism of Rice.

That was before 97 House Republicans wrote that her misleading statements over the days and weeks following the attack in Libya caused irreparable damage to her credibility.

Many people think that the Republican letter will lead Obama to back down and withdraw his support. I think not. If he admits that Rice lied, he would be admitting by implication that he might have lied.

That would make Obama the architect of Benghazi. Conspiracy is not a political crime; it is a felony.D. Lawrence

I cannot figure out how four are killed in Libya, the president and Rice arrange a massive coverup and all we get out of this so-called investigation is to make her secretary of state.

What would happen if a senator was killed in Benghazi? Would Rice become president?

The only people I feel sorry for is the victims’ families.

If Sen. John McCain, Sen. Lindsey Graham or any other senators vote for Rice for secretary of state, I hope you all can look at yourselves again. John Colombo
