‘Accident’ was murder: cops

Authorities upstate have charged a Seneca County man with killing his son four years ago and making it look like an accident.

Karl Karlsen’s son, Levi, 23, died in November 2008 while working on a truck in a barn in Romulus. Karlsen, 52, told sheriff’s deputies at the time that he had returned from a family event and found the truck had toppled off a jack and trapped his son underneath.

But in March, the sheriff’s office learned about a life-insurance policy on Levi, taken out just days before his death. The case is prompting a new look at a 1991 California fire that killed Karl Karlsen’s first wife.
