Charity runaround

As a former marathoner, I gave up my membership in the New York Road Runners Club many years ago (“The Road Runner Racket” Editorial, Nov. 18).

Not soon after founder Fred Lebow passed away, it seemed to me that the organization simply became a convenient vehicle to provide financial largesse to its officers.

It is not clear to me that the CEO of a nonprofit that simply uses the public streets to put on a road race needs to be paid as much money as the CEO of the American Red Cross.

Perhaps others will review the matter, especially the Charities Enforcement Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s Office.

Who’s wealthy?

President Obama continues to insult New Yorkers by claiming that a family income of $250,000 a year is “wealthy” (“DC’s Fiscal-Cliff, Tax-Hike Chess Game,” Ramesh Ponnuru, PostOpinion, Nov. 21)

He should try to live here for a year with Michelle and his two daughters, Sasha and Malia — who, of course, would have to go to private school — and see just how wealthy he would be. This is a president who refuses to acknowledge the difference between someone making that amount and a hedge-fund wiz making millions, if not billions.

No wonder the economy is tanking.

Partisan Eva

I’m not sure why The Post continues to highlight currently unmarried actress Eva Longoria as some sort of good catch (“Happily Eva After,” Nov. 20).

She’s not. She vocally supported Obama. ’Nuff said.

Gropez grief

Back-room deals of any kind are not feasible in today’s political climate, and the City Council is not staffed with idiots (“Anti-Gropez Push,” Nov. 21).

Do you honestly think these upstanding men and women who tirelessly work the streets of their districts to help their constituents — including women and children — would cut a deal to keep an alleged pervert like Vito Lopez in office? Give these good men and women more credit.

‘GMA’ downers

Is this article a publicity piece (“‘GMA’ Calls Josh, ‘Lashing Out’ at Crew,”Nov. 20)?

I can find no other reason to mention this very untalented, albeit lucky, newscaster.

Who is in charge of talent these days at “Good Morning America”? Other than George Stephanopoulos, Elizabeth Vargas and a few of the fill-ins for Robin Roberts, there are some nice people, but no one with “it.” I am so tired of hosts giggling and tripping over lines and themselves.

Dressing in sleeveless dresses and heels seems to be the females’ only role. Hasn’t women’s liberation brought us a long way?

Put the bar higher, so that people can have something to think about. Get rid of the Friday DJs and rock bands and give us an idea of what is going on in our world that matters.

Midlife mistake

I wonder if Gen. Petraeus is thinking, “I should have bought that Corvette instead” (“Paula and Family Are Back Home,” Nov. 19).
