Homeless man arrested in series of Fro-Yo stickups

The Fro-Yo bandit is on ice, cops say.

A suspect in at least 10 holdups of Brooklyn businesses — including three at one Tasti D-Lite in Park Slope — is in custody, authorities said yesterday.

Robert Coston, 47, was picked up Friday at a cheap hotel in East New York. He was charged with 10 counts of robbery. He is homeless and has 16 prior arrests, dating to 1985, cops said.

The stickup spree began Oct. 17 at the robber’s favorite target, the Tasti D-Lite on Seventh Avenue, cops said. Next came the Blue Marble Ice Cream Restaurant in Cobble Hill on Oct. 22.

After nearly every caper, he would apologize to his victims.

As he was being led from a Brooklyn station house last night, he ’fessed up, saying he did it to pay for his kids’ education.

“My sons are in college,” he said. “I was looking for work. I couldn’t find work.

“I’m very sorry for what I did, though.”

Tasti D-Lite owner Mayer Levy said the thief appeared “very calm” while apologizing on one occasion.

“He said, ‘I’m sorry. I hate to do this. I have a family to feed,’ ” Levy recalled.
