Catfight at Camacho wake

Hector “Macho” Camacho’s farewell turned into a bantamweight brawl.

Mourners who attended a wake in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the slain champion Tuesday were stunned when a woman claiming to be his girlfriend lifted the veil over his open coffin, leaned down and kissed him.

Cynthia Castillo, wearing a bright-pink T-shirt bearing the boxer’s photo, then walked to a designated VIP area inside the chapel that was reserved for those closest to Camacho.

That outraged Camacho’s sisters and former girlfriend Gloria Fernandez, who scuffled with Castillo, 28, according to the newspaper El Nuevo Dia.

The women went outside the chapel where Fernandez cursed and shouted at Castillo. Police had to separate them, witnesses said.

Castillo told reporters she had a relationship with Camacho for three years. His body will be flown today to New York, where he grew up, Camacho’s godson, Widniel Adomo, said. A funeral is scheduled for this weekend. ,

After Castillo left, calm returned to the chapel, where hundreds of mourners filed by the Puerto Rican flag-draped coffin of Camacho, who was shot Nov. 20 while sitting in a parked car in his hometown, Bayamon.

Before the scuffle, Camacho’s mother, Maria Matias cried “They killed him” during the wake.

Above Camacho’s casket was a large screen that showed some of his most famous bouts, along with clips of TV shows in which he appeared.
