Beyond the art in Miami

Bummed that the whole Kanye West, Lou Reed, bands-and-DJs galore UR1 music festival isn’t happening during the Art Basel weekend anymore? There’s still plenty of music in Miami this week. One hot pick is Metric, with fierce temptress Emily Haines, at the VH1 Outdoor Lounge for Scope Miami’s official Thursday night party. That’s the night after Rick Ross and his Maybach Music crew show Miami Beach who’s boss at the Fillmore. But if you prefer to hear yourself behind the mike, there’s the Jelsomino karaoke lounge, where DJ Ace — also known as Will Smith’s son, Trey — will take over the decks on Friday. And expect Dutch DJ Tiësto’s late Saturday night at the Fontainebleau’s LIV nightclub to be an unofficial after party for ballers and bombshells alike.

Dress to impress

Art Basel is going to seem a lot like Fashion Week. The schedule at the Webster Miami — a high-end boutique featuring brands from Alexander Wang to Yves Saint Laurent — includes events with Stella McCartney, Valentino and the Sartorialist, among others. And the Design District, truly emerging as a luxe destination (Prada is opening Thursday), will have revelers toasting their own fabulousness at Christian Louboutin, Marni, Dior Homme and so many other spots. Plus, Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Glenda Bailey will be in the Design District for her magazine’s shopbazaar.com pop-up store.

Om baby

Need to chill out and detox after your wild Art Basel nights? Head to the Wynwood Walls outdoor museum of street art (where a new Shepard Fairey mural will be unveiled) for YogArt. Yep, that’s yoga meets art, with public sessions Thursday through Sunday for $30. And South Beach juice bar JugoFresh will have a Wynwood pop-up, with bottles designed by local street artist Douglas Hoekzema and HGTV’s “Design Star” contender Mark Diaz, to keep you fortified. For a real meal, chef Dena Marino’s newly opened MC Kitchen nearby in the Design District is already winning over local tastemakers. South Beach Wine & Food Festival founder Lee Schrager, one of YogArt’s creators, has raved about the modern Italian restaurant on Twitter, as has cantankerous “food fanatic” the Chowfather. After a meal that included artichoke heart bruschetta, oven-roasted langoustines and garganelli with a veal, venison and pork bolognese, he shouted out Marino on Twitter: “Now this @bellachef19 is an Italian chef to get excited about #nohypeTHErealdeal #gourmetalltheway #chopthis.”

Surreal world

Filmmaker David Lynch will have a looming presence during the week. In addition to his Paris nightclub Silencio popping up at the Delano’s FDR Lounge, bottles he designed for Dom Pérignon will be displayed at a dinner with Daphne Guinness to launch the Roger Dubuis Velvet Collection watches.
