‘X Files’ reboot could be in the works

Is Fox quietly working on a reboot of “The X-Files”?

That’s what being hinted by the classic supernatural series’ former executive producer Frank Spotnitz.

“I wouldn’t be surprised at all,” Spotnitz told the science-fiction Web site Den of Geek.

“You know, for better or for worse, these things are titles of big corporations , like ‘ Star Trek’ belongs to Paramount and ‘The X-Files’ belongs to 20th Century Fox.

“It’s a huge asset in their libraries so I can’t imagine they would let it sit languishing forever.”

“Mulder and Scully: The College Years?” the interviewer asked.

“Anything could happen,” relied Spotnitz, who created the spy drama “Hunter” for HBO most recently.

Rebooting would not mean the return of David Duchovny and Jillian Anderson, who originated the starring roles in the series in 1993.

New, younger actors would be cast in the lead roles — as has been done with other recent remakes of hit shows like “Hawaii Five-O” and “Bionic Woman.”
