Brazilian scare-TV clip goes viral

BOO: Man is scared in elevator. (

That clip from a Brazilian TV show that’s generated nearly 7 million hits on YouTube this week would never air here without proper safety precautions, says Scott Hallock, the co-creator/executive producer of Syfy’s similarly themed show, “Scare Tactics.”

The six-minute clip from SBT’s “Pegadinha” (“Hidden Camera”) shows people’s hilariously horrified reactions to coming face-to-face — while stuck in a stalled elevator — with a ghostly young girl who wasn’t there when they entered on the ground floor.

“I’m thinking, what if someone had a bad reaction and freaked out and attacked that little girl?” says Hallock. “There was no safety net in place to protect that actress. ”

The girl, dressed in a raggedy gown and holding a bald doll, gazes at her “victims” before letting out a blood-curdling scream.

Hallock says there’s a reason this clip has gone viral.

“I think it’s the reactions [of the people] that’s resonating,” he says. “Many people who ride in elevators have a slight fear, or think something creepy is going to happen.”
