Lottery winners vow to help Sandy relief

They’re spreading their luck to Hurricane Sandy victims.

Two New Yorkers who yesterday collected lottery jackpots — one for $33 million, another for $1 million — vowed to give some of their windfalls to storm victims who are still rebuilding.

“I don’t have a number yet, but I plan on doing something to help people from the hurricane,” said 67-year-old John Cimino, of Garden City Park, LI, who won $33 million playing Mega Millions on Nov. 2.

Even after aiding Sandy storm victims, Cimino plans to maintain his modest lifestyle.

“I’m really not into luxury things. I’m just happy that I’ll be able to retire,” said Cimino, who took a lump-sum, after-tax payout of $16.4 million.

He says he’ll continue to work part time as a floral designer.

And retired US Treasury Agent Donald Gilbert, of Staten Island, said he’ll put some of his $1 million Powerball payout to relief efforts.

“I have friends who lost houses, cars,” Gilbert said.

His post-tax, lump-sum payment from the Oct. 24 drawing is $623,040.

Gilbert said he would use some of that cash to “take care of my son and some of my friends who lost a lot, and see if I can help them out.”

He says he suffered only some tree and sidewalk damage on his property in the storm but does not yet know what it will cost to fix it.
