Mideast’s spreading disasters

The Issue: Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi’s efforts to impose Sharia law and gain more power.

It looks like we have another brutal dictator in Egypt (“Time To Let Go of America’s Delusions,” Rich Lowry, PostOpinion, Dec. 1).

President Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood have been waiting 50 years for this takeover, to institute Sharia law over the people.

The Obama administration-backed Arab Spring is a disaster, with over 40,000 Syrians murdered by their government, al Qaeda terrorizing the Middle East and Libyans murdering our American heroes.

As I read about Egypt’s struggles to avoid a dictatorial theocracy and implement a modicum of freedom and our part in this frustrating and costly enterprise, I thought about Ron Paul’s philosophy of isolationism, and how virtually every pundit excoriated him during the primaries as an unrealistic old loon.

Is it so hard to picture a world where America does not poke its nose into everything, thereby saving money and making fewer enemies?

It’s time for nations to chart their own course without our interference. Herb Eichen
