It’s time to bench Rex

* We should be very excited that two 4-7 teams, the Jets and Cardinals, faced off last week, and we should be even more excited the Jets beat the Cardinals 7-6. That’s right. Coach Rex Ryan replaced Mark Sanchez at quarterback and the Jets still scored one whole touchdown. It should be obvious by now, if it wasn’t obvious before: The dilemma is not which quarterback should play; the dilemma is which coach should replace Ryan. In any event, congratulations Jets, break out the champagne.

Off the Mark

* Did Jets fans notice how the team all of a sudden seemed to play better when coach Rex Ryan brought in Greg McElroy to replace Mark Sanchez at quarterback? They seemed to be energized and happy, and they played a more professional type of football than they did when Sanchez was in there. My question is: Why didn’t they play like that when Sanchez was in there as QB? Had they played like that, it might have elevated Sanchez’s play and given him the confidence needed to succeed. It was very obvious they hadn’t been in his corner for a long time now.

JOE SANCHEZ

* After hearing Rex Ryan’s plan to start Mark Sanchez in today’s game notwithstanding most Jets fans’ preference for Tim Tebow or Greg McElroy, I just have one question for the coach: Would Sanchez be the starting quarterback on any other team in the NFL? Loyalty is nice, but the Ryan-Sanchez love-fest is ridiculous and pathetic.

A is for …

* Not being a Yankees fan, I have no problem with third baseman Alex Rodriguez’s anticipated six-month absence from the team. I mean, what’s the downside, other than financially, for the Yankees? It’s not as if they’re losing Mike Schmidt at the height of his career. Incidentally, what does the A in A-Rod stand for anyway, albatross?

Boss-omics 101

* Since the greatest owner in the history of sports, George M. Steinbrenner, is deceased and cannot speak, I will speak for him with a message to his two sons, who are making a mockery of the Yankees. The greatest franchise in the history of sports does not care about salary caps or luxury taxes. The Yankees only care about winning championships.

Hell of a nerve

* Victims of Hurricane Sandy have lost everything — homes, jobs, businesses — while at the same time, a bunch of greedy NHL owners and players are fighting over billions. I have been a hockey fan for over 60 years, but that all ends now. You NHL bums can all go to hell.
