Normal rush due on LIRR

Long Island Rail Road service will be back to normal tomorrow when lines return to regular rush-hour schedules for the first time since Hurricane Sandy blew them off course, Gov. Cuomo said.

It has been six weeks since riders had regular morning and evening service, leaving peak-time passengers to “endure crowded conditions,” the governor added.

Sandy drenched two East River tunnels and fried signal systems used by the LIRR and Amtrak. So far, the signal systems in one tunnel have been replaced and the other is expected to be completed by Christmas.

Cuomo also announced that the Brooklyn-Battery/ Hugh Carey Tunnel will have normal three-lane traffic into lower Manhattan tomorrow morning for the first time since the storm.

The tunnel suffered severe flooding from Sandy.
