MLB: Source: Rangers send Young to Phillies

The Phillies acquired seven-time All-Star infielder Michael Young from the Rangers for two relief pitchers, according to a person familiar with the trade. Young agreed to waive his no-trade clause yesterday.

The Phillies are sending right-hander Josh Lindblom and minor league righty Lisalverto Bonilla to the Rangers to get Young, who fills a void at third base.

NCAA: Hundreds remember Majerus at funeral

Hundreds gathered at a church on the Marquette University campus in Milwaukee to remember Rick Majerus, the impassioned college basketball coach who died Dec. 1 of heart failure at the age of 64. Majerus won 517 games while coaching at Marquette, Ball State, Utah and Saint Louis.

Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville agreed to become Cincinnati’s next football coach one day after Butch Jones left the Bearcats for Tennessee.

Willie Taggart is South Florida’s new football coach after turning around a losing program at Western Kentucky.

GOLF: Senden leads at Australian Open

Australian John Senden finished with a 2-under 70 for a two-stroke lead after three rounds of the Australian Open in Sydney. Senden had a three-round total of 7-under 209.

Englishman Justin Rose, who also shot 70, was in second place, followed by Australians Matthew Jones (69), Peter Senior (69) and Kieran Pratt (70), all three behind Senden.

In Naples, Fla., Kenny Perry and Sean O’Hair took a two-stroke lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout with an 11-under 61.

Shanshan Feng of China won the Dubai Ladies Masters by five strokes after shooting a 3-under 69.

ETC.: Grieving McHale rejoins Rockets

Coach Kevin McHale has rejoined the Rockets after almost a month away from the team, and two weeks after the death of his 23-year-old daughter, Sasha.

In Miami, Dwyane Wade scored 26 points, LeBron James finished with 24 and the Heat snapped a two-game slide by topping the Hornets 106-90.

Carli Lloyd and Sydney Leroux scored in the second half, and the U.S. women’s soccer team beat China 2-0 in Detroit to remain unbeaten on its post-Olympic tour.
