NJ’s first medical marijuana dispensary opens

MONTCLAIR, NJ — New Jersey’s first medical marijuana dispensary has opened for business.

Greenleaf Compassion Center in Montclair says it is serving only 20 clients per day at first, and only by appointment.

Three people — all apparently patients — entered the dispensary by 11 a.m. but declined comment.

Greenleaf president Joseph Stevens said “everything’s been going great” as he greeted the third person through the doors. He also accepted a delivery gift of a large decorative plant.

It’s been three years since a law went on the books legalizing cannabis for patients with certain conditions in New Jersey. Patients say it relieves pain and nausea associated with glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and other illnesses.

More than 300 patients have registered so far.
